It’s not true. I am not dating Jaywon.

It was reported you had a secret wedding with him recently. How about that?

Well, that’s a very big lie. I am not married to anyone. No secret wedding. I think it will be very rude of me to get married without the consent of my family. That was not part of my upbringing, and even if I am to get married, why would I do it in secret as if I am owing anybody. Please, that is not true. Something went wrong somewhere.

How do you mean ‘something went wrong somewhere’?

Cambridge medical student wins Miss England final

A medical student says she has found a new way to care for people by becoming a beauty queen.

Carina Tyrrell, 24, who is in her fifth year of medicine at Cambridge University’s Murray Edwards College, said winning a place in the Miss England final gives her a chance to ‘give something back’.

She said: ‘It would mean so much to me to win Miss England, as I want to give so much back to the country. Being a Miss is not just about physical attributes, you have to be beautiful on the inside and have a caring heart too and be well-rounded. Miss England is a beautiful ambassador for the country.

She added: ‘I am very caring and always try to help people as much as I can. I think winning the competition would enable me to help people in a new way.’

Carina, who was crowned Miss Cambridgeshire at the weekend, has been juggling her modelling with her studies and shifts at the city’s Addenbrooke’s Hospital.

She is also president of the Global Health Society at the university, which has just started a project to help the homeless in Cambridge.

The beauty queen said she was delighted to take the crown of Miss Cambridgeshire, which means she will take part in the Miss England final in Torquay in June. The winner will go on to represent her country in the Miss World pageant.

‘I’m absolutely over the moon. I’ve always been interested in beauty, modelling and fashion and the Miss England competition is something I have always wanted to do,’ Carina said.

‘This is the last year I could take part in the contest and Cambridge means so much to me I really want to give something back. Maybe if I can do well in Miss England I will be able to do that.’

She elaborated: ‘I think Cambridge has given me so much, from the hospital to the university, that I wanted to try to give something back. My desire to help those in need is very strong and this is reflected in my training to become a doctor.

‘As student doctor, you meet new people every day and you are constantly in the public eye. Being comfortable in this setting I believe helps in a beauty contest.’

Carina competed against 12 other girls in the Miss Cambridgeshire competition, which she was encouraged to enter by family and friends.

She is the only member of her family to go into medicine but has always been interested in fashion and took part in a charity catwalk show when she was at school.

‘When I was younger I made a range of dresses and then modelled them at a catwalk show to raise money for charity,’ she said.

‘In my first three years at university I had to hold back on the modelling as I had so much studying to do, but last year I did some photo shoots and I also won the under 21 category in the Cambridge Model Search competition.’

She will now have to start preparing her outfits for the Miss England final, which will see 60 winners from across the country compete in a number of rounds including creating their own outfit for the eco fashion section and showcasing a talent.

‘I’m so looking forward to Miss England - we all have to go to a keep-fit boot camp beforehand so I can’t wait to meet all the girls,’ she said.

‘Most of my fellow doctors are really supportive but a few were a bit perplexed. And my boyfriend is really excited.’

Angie Beasley, director of Miss England, said the fact Miss England is attracting girls of Carina’s calibre shows the pageant is not all about just having a pretty face.

She said: ‘I’m delighted to say the Miss England competition is attracting a new breed of girls from all walks of life. Our message is Beauty with a Purpose - the ethos of Miss World. Carina is the first student doctor to reach the final and we think she has a great chance of taking the crown in Torquay in June.’

Chika Ike Wants A Man Who Can Make Her Happy

Nollywood actress, Chika Ike, who officially divorced from her husband, Tony Eberiri, last year, has not ruled out taking another shot at marriage and she says she can only take the chance with a man who can make her happy and forget her bad experiences.

Chika, who has become one of the few actresses to earn brand endorsements when she was made the Ambassador for Bullet Energy Drink, revealed that she was a victim of domestic violence when she was married and almost lost her life in the process.

This informs her reason of wanting to pitch her tent with a man who will not only make her happy but also not lay a finger on her.

Hear her:

I don’t want to talk about the divorce because it is already in the past and I have since moved on.

I am still open to marriage and I might give it a second shot because I believe in love. For now, I am most concerned with my own happiness.

Any man that cannot walk up to me and toast me is not man enough. I don’t have a long list or criteria for my ideal man. All I want is that he should make me happy.

So guys, can you make Chika Ike happy and forget about her past violent marriage? Why not take the chance with her?

Chelsea bank on home form against PSG

Chelsea will be hoping their outstanding home record will be enough to help them overturn a two-goal deficit when they play PSG in the quarterfinal, second-leg of the Champions League on Tuesday, according to AFP.

Manager Jose Mourinho has never lost a quarter-final tie in the competition, in his time with Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milan and Real Madrid, and is desperate not to break that run at Stamford Bridge.

Their 3-1 defeat in Paris last week, when a last-minute goal gave PSG a two-goal cushion, made life difficult for the English side, who won the Champions League in 2012.

But it is their home form – with 15 wins out of 17 in the league this season – that gives Chelsea fans most hope.

Mourinho has bemoaned a side “with no strikers” due to the lack of form of Fernando Torres, Demba Ba and Samuel Eto’o this season. Torres drew a blank in the weekend win over Stoke and Mourinho is so desperate that he may be willing to risk a semi-fit Eto’o on Tuesday.

“If we don’t score a minimum of two goals, we are out, we know that,” he said. “If we can have everybody available who can give us a chance to score goals then let’s do that. So maybe I will pick him but to risk a player you need to have minimum conditions.

“If you think he’s going to be out after 10 minutes of the game you can’t take that risk. But if there is a minimum of conditions of risk, then, yes, I will pick him.”

Midfield stalwart Frank Lampard says Chelsea need to maintain their focus throughout, with any slip in concentration likely to be costly.

“The problem with Champions League football is that you can’t settle for having good periods in the game like we did the other night,” he said.

“The quality levels are so high that in little moments you can end up losing the game.

“That was the disappointing thing about Paris but we’ve got the ability and we’ve got the desire. We have to have confidence in ourselves and go and try and turn it around.”

“With the squad we’ve got and the players we’ve got we can the game by two goals, for sure, but we can’t be too gung-ho. It’s about finding the right balance on the night.

“We’ll look at it. I think that is when you trust the manager. He is very strong in these situations.”

Confab Delegates Reveal How Boko Haram Came Into The Country

photo
At the ongoing national conference, the issue of insecurity was up for debate as Ogoni rights activist, Ledum Mitee pointed accusing fingers at Nigeria's leaders for being behind the emergence of Boko Haram.

Tracing the cause of Boko Haram and other forms of arms struggle across the country, Mitee who is at the conference as a federal government delegate recalled how how promising Nigerians who were willing to acquire education were awarded scholarships, adding that there were jobs for graduates, contrary to the mass of unemployed graduates currently permeating the streets. The youths had to embrace other forms of survival out of frustration over the inability to get decent sources of livelihood.

He said this and several others gave birth to arms struggle and Boko Haram in the country.

"Beneath the clashes of arms we see across the country, there was a voice crying for justice. If we must move this country forward, we must address the issue of injustice. It is also possible that youths burning churches in the north have exhausted their patience," he said.

Other delegates also recalled with nostalgia how the dreaded Boko Haram insurgent group was created by activities of the government at all levels.

Speaking on the issue, Professor Femi Mimiko, a delegate from Ondo state reminded delegates how Nigeria got to this current level, blaming the problems of the country on the structure of the government.

Professor Mimiko, a respected professor of political science and current vice chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akure, however took a lonely path when he advocated that the constitution should be amended to accommodate the carrying of arms by citizens, saying this is one of the ways to ensure that everyone is safe.

Kate Winslet Admits "My Titanic Nude Image Still Haunts Me"

Kate Winslet has confessed that the famous Titanic scene in which she sprawls on a sofa completely naked while a young Leonardo DiCaprio draws her makes her feel uncomfortable, even after 17 years. The Oscar-winning actress is often asked to autograph the portrait on the red carpet.

In a latest interview with Yahoo! Movies UK the actress revealed, "I don't sign that one! It is still haunting me, It's quite funny, really."

Then she added,

"It feels very uncomfortable. Why would you do that? They were asking me to sign it. People ask me to sign that one a lot, and actually there's a photo of it as well that someone's lifted from a still of the film. That photo gets passed around. It's like, 'No, I didn't mean for it to be a photograph that I would end up seeing 16, 17 years later."

Omawumi finds new love

                                             Omawumi

Omawumi is not a bad singer. She didn’t win the Nigerian Idols competition many years ago, but the young lady grew to become one of the respected ladies of songs in Nigeria.

Now that she has stamped her feet in the music industry, Omawumi has decided to diversify. The young lady has found a new love in agriculture.

But then, she insists she was actually born into a home of farmers claiming her father had a farm in their home town in Warri.

Currently working on ONE.org’s theme song project‘Cocoa na Chocolate’, the singer said she joined the campaign for agriculture to be revived in Africa because it used to be the continent’s source of income before the discovery of oil.

“I have always been into agriculture; my father has a 25-hectare land in Ubeji, in the outskirts of Warri. While I grew up, I used to go to the farm and we used to process cassava. I can make garri; I mean uprooting the cassava, the whole process of extraction and frying it. I can do it effortlessly same thing with fufu and tapioca. I am actively involved in agriculture because I grew in the farm.

“Everything we use is actually from agriculture especially most of the make-up women use. I am a part of the project because I believe we need to be actively involved in agriculture, especially the youths. They see agriculture as something that is ‘uncool’ meanwhile it could create employment for a lot of them. I wonder why someone would rather go to a supermarket to buy chicken at a price you could use to buy some chicks, rare them and after a while, you have lots of chicken for your consumption,” she said.

Speaking on her new album that is still in the pipeline, she said it would be a 10-track album and would be unique and different because it would be more of acoustics.

“I am working on my next album which would be a live album. I have one song with Phyno and it is wonderful. I want to produce a 10 track album that even when you listen to in the next 10 years you would love it. I would use live acoustics so you can get a feel of the real music as opposed to using technology all the way. I did not start performing with live band but music is something people want to enjoy raw, if someone is playing a guitar for example, people want to hear and have a feel of the guitar. It makes music more enjoyable as opposed to asking a disc jockey to play your songs while you mime to it. However, I do not blame anybody who does not subscribe to playing with live band, different strokes for different folks,” Omawumi said.

Three Pregnant Teens Rescued From A Baby Factory In Ogun

Three teenage pregnant girls were rescued from a ‘baby factory’ in Adigbe community of Abeokuta, Ogun State. A female operator of the factory was subsequently arrested by the police.

Items recovered from the Abeokuta house at Soas Estate included cowries, a calabash containing black soap, and various white garments.

According to Premium Times, the place was uncovered after one of the captives escaped from the house. Abia State born teenage girl subsequently went around seeking alms from neighbours to enable her return to her state. She also claimed that she had no idea where she was.

The concerned neighbours, after realising the trouble the young woman got into, have immediately alerted the police.

To strengthen these words, the police revealed that some “fetish materials” were found at the scene of the crime (pictured below).

Court orders Financial Reporting Council to stop investigating Sanusi

Justice J. T. Tsoho of the Federal High Court, Lagos, today April 4th ordered the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRCN) to stop any further investigations it is currently carrying out on the suspended CBN Governor, Sanusi Lamido.

The Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria had leveled allegations of financial recklessness and abuse of office on Sanusi and recommended his suspension which was effected on February 20.

The council in its presentation to the president said they found Mr Sanusi's report on the audited financial statement of the CBN for the year ended Dec. 2012 and other related issues unsatisfactory.

Upon his Suspension, Mr Sanusi was invited to a panel set up by the council at Elephant House Ikeja Lagos for questioning on March 27th but failed to turn up. Reports say Sanusi felt the panel was bias and was set out to rubbish his person. He filed a suit that same day asking the court to stop the FRCN from investigating him as it lacked the constitutional power to investigate him. His request was granted by a judge today.

Shock as Zambian President sacks AWARD WINNING Tourism minister

Zambian President sacks award winning Tourism Minister

LUSAKA, Zambia – President Michael Sata has sacked Tourism and Arts Minister Sylvia Masebo for allegedly defaming the presidency.
“President Sata has, with immediate effect, relieved Masebo of her duties as minister of tourism and arts,” George Chellah, the president’s special assistant for press and public relations, said in aThursday statement.
The statement gave no reason for the decision.
But the move is thought to be linked to recent court testimony by Masebo in which she said Sata had ordered her to dissolve the board of the Zambia Wildlife Authority and dismiss all its directors – without following standard procedure.
Sata, for his part, had distanced himself from the allegations.Executive officials and members of the ruling Patriotic Front party have reportedly accused Masebo of showing contempt for the president.
“I have nothing to say now,” the sacked minister said when contacted by Anadolu Agency for comment.
“The only reasonable thing for me to do is thank the president for according me an opportunity to serve in his cabinet,” Masebo added.
“Anything beyond this, no comment,” she said.

Nigeria's Lamido Sanusi wins damages case in Lagos court

Lamido Sanusi, Nigeria's Central Bank governor, in October 2013

A Nigerian court has awarded about $300,000 (£180,000) in damages to suspended central bank chief Lamido Sanusi after he filed a harassment case against the government.

The court also ordered that Mr Sanusi be given back his passport, and he should not be detained unlawfully.

He was briefly detained in February, soon after his suspension.

Nigeria's President Goodluck Jonathan suspended him after he claimed that $20bn in oil revenue had gone missing.

Mr Sanusi's passport was seized on 20 February at the international airport in Lagos, Nigeria's main city.

The Lagos High Court restrained the government from arresting, detaining or harassing him, Nigeria's Premium Times newspaper reports.

Mr Jonathan says Mr Sanusi was suspended, pending the outcome of an investigation into "financial recklessness and misconduct" at the central bank.

Nigeria's state oil firm has denied failing to account for the money, saying Mr Sanusi's claim was "unsubstantiated".

Mr Sanusi is widely respected after undertaking reforms to the banking sector since his appointment in 2009.

He was named central bank governor of the year for 2010 by Banker magazine.

Gunman Kills One, Injures Others At American Military Base

                                   photo
According to multiple reports, the yet to be identified gunman was still at large as at the time of filing this report.A TV station said a witness reported that there were at least 20 shots fired while there were reports of victims at the base’s Medical Brigade Building and the Battle Simulation Center.
Another report stated that as many as eight people may have been injured.
Fort Hood only confirmed there has been “an incident” on the post and police are on the scene,
“All personnel on post are asked to shelter in place,” the official Twitter account of Fort Hood said.
Army personnel was being told to stay away from doors and windows as authorities searched for a gunman with a .45-caliber pistol who was seen driving a gray Toyota.
A message that scrolled across the top of the post’s website said, “Shelter in place immediately. This is not a test.”
The shooting took place shortly after 5 pm EST. Sirens could be heard across the base an hour after the shootings.
The shootings took place in several buildings.
The Metroplex Hospital in Killeen has been placed on standby, officials said.
Central Texas College in Killeen is evacuating its campus and all evening and night classes have been canceled for the rest of the day, according to KVUE.
A soldier told newsmen that the gunman and officials appeared to be in a standoff.
It was also gathered that soldiers without IDs and permits were being turned away from base entrances.
However, reports say President Obama has been informed of the incident.
At 340 square miles, Fort Hood is one of the largest military bases in the world.
It could be recalled that on Nov. 5, 2009, Army psychiatrist Nidal Malik Hasan opened fire at Fort Hood’s Soldier Readiness Center, killing 12 soldiers and one civilian and wounding 29 others before two Fort Hood civilian police officers shot him.
He is now on the military’s death row.

Woman Killed Running Across Road Near Pedestrian Bridge

Today a woman was knocked down and killed as she attempted running across the busy highway just a about 30 metres away from the Pedestrian bridge at Palmgrove area of Lagos.
It is a sad thing but one is tempted to ask why people take the risk of crossing the highway like James Bond when a pedestrian bridge has been provided to prevent such unfortunate incidents?
This was the debate in the BRT bus I boarded this morning on my way to the office at Lekki.

According to some of the passengers, The Lagos state government’s laws stipulate that the families of such victims as this woman would have to pay a surcharge before they can claim the body.

Pulse.ng could not confirm this, but there seems to be some truth to it.

Now, this makes it a double loss, first the traumatic loss of a loved one and then the fact that you have to pay to get the body

Despite the fact that people are arrested for crossing the roads, they still do it... parents with children, handicapped people, pregnant women and able bodied folks too may claim that the climb up, across and down is strenuous, but is death by hit-and-run a better option?

In November 2003, Gov Fashola, Fashola, while ordering the construction of five pedestrian bridges along Lagos Epe Expressway in the state following an accident where students were killed appealed to officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, to ensure that students crossing where there were no pedestrian bridges were assisted.

He also said drivers who killed pedestrians as a result of recklessness would be dealt with.

But today’s accident shows that the problem lies with the people too.

Please save your life and use the pedestrian bridges. And if you have a visitor coming to Lagos for the first time, tell them to never run across a Lagos road.

There is no reason to not use the pedestrian bridge, especially with everyone – drivers inclusive – in a hurry to nowhereShe failed to use the pedestrian bridge and got knocked-down while crossing the highway. Unfortunately, she died.

Tension After Katsina Students Burn Churches Over Exam Questions

Debates are still raging following the burning of two churches in Katsina by students protesting allegedly 'blasphemous' exam questions set by a corps member.

These were the 'blasphemous' questions:

"Mohammed is mentally unbalanced, So you should be ___________ of his behaviour. (a) tolerant (b) unintelligible (c) indefinite (d) illegible

Aminatu was ________ and it was not clear to me what she meant. (a) unknown (b) unintelligible (c) indefinite (d) illegible."

Some irate Muslim youths attacked two churches, St Theresa Catholic Church and Celestial Church of Christ, in Funtua town of Katsina State.

The Reverend Father’s lodge at St Theresa Catholic Church, Katsina Road and properties belonging to the Celestial Church of Christ at Tudun Malamai were set ablze in protest.

Spokesman of Katsina State command of NSCDC, Aliyu Jamilu told the News Issue Magazine that the youth went on rampage over alleged defamation of Prophet Muhammad.

“A corp member serving with a secondary school, in setting exams questions, made some reference to Muhammad and Amina. These youths felt he was trying to defame Prophet Muhammad and so went on rampage,” Jamilu said.

A sample of Facebook comment showed a consensus in condemning the action.

Mike Moses Okaba, "For God sake what is wrong if Mohamed name is mention in an examination... Even the idols worshipers in my village don't go about killing people because they insult their gods. The idol priest allows his god fight for himself. We as Christians will never go about killing non-Christians because they insult or [speak] bad about JESUS..."

Remi Adeoye, "Muhammad and Amina are very common names in the north. If the reference was not to prophet Mohammad then I am sure no disrespect was intended by the [corps member] who obviously used the names because they are popular northern names. But whatever the case may be, it is madness to resort to killing people and burning places of worship because of alleged misconduct of one person. Any person that supports such action is not fit to live among civilized people."

Nasiru Sa'adu Fakai wrote, “The truth is that, we must always try to dig out the reality of events before condemning or supporting it. There is. Nothing in Islam that support the destruction of lives and property, infact, what Islam teaches thru our prophet Muhammad is Love, Peace and Tolerance. Anytime I hear of killings or destruction in the name of Islam, I always conclude that, there are more to it than what the eyes see or the ears hear."

There is still tension in Funtua town even as security agents have been deployed to maintain order.
