On Sunday, May 4, about five gunmen broke into the residence of the Caretaker Chairman of Shani Local Government Area of Borno state, Alhaji Madu Walama, in Walama village and shot one of his son, Shettima Walama.
On their way out the gunmen also killed a man who was driving along the main road.
According to the residents of Walama, it was the forth time when unknown gunmen have invaded the Council Chairman's house in Walama village. At about 11pm on Sunday, the gunmen suspected to be political assassins shot 20-year-old Shettima Walama when they found out that the council Boss wasn't in the house.
It was gathered that the son of Alhaji Madu Walama lost a lot of blood and died on the way to the hospital.
The same gunmen who attacked the chairman's house reportedly invaded a house of Mallam Adamu Gwaskara, a prominent indigene of Gwaskara village, and inflicted serious injury upon the man.
The Police Commissioner, Mr. Lawal Tanko, confirmed the incident, saying the gunmen were suspected to be armed robbers.
