Nigeria secured a 2-1 come-from-behind win over Colombia to book a quarter-final ticket alongside Mexico and, at the same time, end the hopes of the South Americans in Group D match at the 2014 FIFA U-17 World Cup.
Columbia, who needed victory like air, started actively and scored on the third minute of the match.
The Flamingos replied on the 26th minute, Joy BOKIRI left Columbia’s keeper upset by performing a perfectly flighted free-kick from the edge of the penalty area.
Nigeria took the in the second half of the match, when some sloppy marking from a corner allowed the tall figure of Uchenna Kanu to nod the ball in unchallenged at the back post on the 59th minute.
The Flamingoes were in control and celebrated the second win at the tournament. They now share top spot with Mexico and will play their next game against them.
Colombia and Chine will decide who can earn their maiden points of the competition and who gets nothing.
It would be recalled that Nigeria has beaten China the starting match at the World Cup with the same result, 2 - 1.
