Niger State Government informed that one of the victims, who perished in stampede during National Immigration Services (NIS) examination on March 15, 2014, Saturday, is yet to be identified, and her corpse yet to be claimed.
The Governor of Niger State, Babangida Aliyu, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Ndako Kpaki, revealed this in Minna on March 20, 2014, Thursday, during the visit of the Minister of State for Agriculture, Asabe Ahmed.
However, it is not obvious why the delay is happening, as all the applicants, apart from paying the fee of N1,000, have also filled-in online forms where they had to attach their passport photographs.
The NIS in Niger state still insists that the tragedy happened because of the unprecedented number of applicants trying to get to the venue of the examination at the same time. Niger state authorities failed to manage the people, because they had been expecting 7,000 applicants, but 12,000 turned up.
It has been gathered that 13 survivors of the stampede had been discharged from the local hospital.
It would be recalled that about 20 people died nationwide in stampedes that occurred at various venues during NIS recruitment exercise.
