Immigration: Minister describes stampede as 'national tragedy'
The minister spoke on Sunday in Abuja, when he addressed newsmen after he visited the Abuja National Stadium, where seven persons died.
Moro, described the incident as "unfortunate and a national tragedy," adding that this was not the time to apportion blame.
According to the minister, Nigerians should show some understanding, while the incidence is being investigated by the government.
He said it was unfortunate that persons, who were not called for the exercise and some who were not fit to partake, came, and created problems for the ministry.
“The situation we have found here is very unfortunate, because if you look at the gate of the stadium and the surroundings, it is a clear indication that some people had the intention to break into the stadium forcefully.
“In the process people were trampled upon and unfortunately some persons lost their lives.
“This is an exercise that was organised primarily to forestall this kind of incidence that we have seen today” he said.
He noted that in previous recruitments, participants converging only in the FCT, which caused chaos hence the exercise was decentralised.
He said the ministry had chosen to use stadia as examination centres in order to contain participants and allow for physical exercise; which was a basic component of the recruitment process.
He said that adequate security was provided to maintain orderliness in all 37 centres across the country.
“Unfortunately the preliminary information available to me, shows that people who did not apply for the exercise tried to cash in on the openness of the exercise.
“Several unauthorised persons came in here, especially pregnant women; and in a paramilitary examination that involves physical exercise, I am surprised that a pregnant woman will come to partake," Moro said.
The minister said that a committee would be set up on Monday, March 17, to look critically at the situation.
The minister expressed his condolences to the families of the victims who died or were injured during the exercise.
Over 500 000 persons applied for the vacant positions, while no fewer than 16 persons lost their lives nationwide as a result of the stampede, while many sustained injuries.

On how he feels celebrating 57
I am very happy for so many reasons. First, I was born on March 3, 1957, and I am 57 today. That alone is a big honour. Born 1957 and clocking 57, you can understand what I mean.
Looking back 10 years ago, what were the things you’re doing then that you can’t do again?
So many things. Even the way you react to situations, your utterances and everything you do must be very different because 57 is not just one age by the corner. It’s a big milestone. And you wouldn’t like to see yourself as a failure. If you’re unable to pack yourself together at 57, then you’re as good as a goner.
On his greatest achievement at 57?
A lot of great achievements. Basically, the Almighty God has been able to see me through the present situation I am in my musical career. Anytime I see the younger ones referring to me as Baba, I ask myself, ‘what is it exactly?’ And the guy referring to me as Baba is just 32 which is obvious I have his age mates among my children. So, if he refers to me as ‘Baba’, basically he knows what he is saying. To me, that’s the greatest achievement.

I don’t know what people mean by being rich. If living comfortably and setting certain standards for yourself is what people refer to as being rich, then I am glad I am one. You planned it that way or it was just a coincidence?
Honestly, it wasn’t planned that way. We’re only planning one, then the second person said she was ready as well. Then, the third also said she was ready. I was expecting the third daughter to say no but she said she was also ready. May be, they all felt like so far this man has time now, why don’t we do everything at the same time, And the truth is that if we didn’t do everything now, my busy schedule would overtake them. JUST IN: National Conference Kicks Off Today
The delegates have started arriving in Abuja for the conference already on Sunday.
The confab that will last for three months is meant to provide a platform for Nigerians to discuss issues of their common concern.
Earlier, however, the FG announced that the issues of the indivisibility and indissolubility of Nigeria were a no-go area.
The conference will also advise the government on the legal framework, procedures and options for integrating the decisions and outcomes of the national conference into the constitution and laws of Nigeria.
The Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Reuben Abati, in an interview with Punch disclosed what President Jonathan’s expectation was that the dialogue would be about Nigeria and its future and not about "narrow interests".
The conference will be chaired by retired Justice Idris Kutigi.

He said: “ I know that our Armed Forces have the capability. I was their Commander-in-Chief once and I can assure you they have the capacity to do well and win this war against insurgency”.
The former Head of State, while assuring Nigerians that the war against insurgency would soon end, said it was the hard work of the Army and other security agencies that has prevented Abuja, from being attacked by the terrorist group that is bent on wreaking havoc on Abuja, the federal capital.
He said that but for the effort of the military which acts swiftly on intelligence report, Boko Haram would have taken over the entire city which is their heart’s desire to show their supremacy.
Gowon urged Nigerians to join hands with government in the fight against insurgency that has taken over the North-East and expressed doubts if members of the sect are Nigerians”.
General Gowon told the participants, made mostly of youths as a young military officer he led the country and triumphed in the civil war that threatened the soul of the Nigerian nation
He said: “The civil war that we had to fight was not borne out of hatred, it was just a disagreement between two brothers, I was very concerned about the ordinary people. It was not out of hatred.
“My question is that these people who are doing this, are they truly Nigerians? because I don’t want to believe that a true Nigerian no matter how aggrieved, can do what these people are doing.”

Famous Nollywood Actor Arrested For Raping His Daughter's Friend
He was arrested last Tuesday by the Osun state police command and detained at the Oke-Baale division of the Nigeria Police.
The actor who is known for violent roles in movies, was said to have been responsible for the upkeep of the victim and her mother who until recently lived with him in his Osogbo residence. The mother had left her with Ogunjimi in Osogbo and relocated to Lagos.
It was gathered that after the rape, the victim reported the incident to the police alongside some residents of the area and it was confirmed by medical experts that the victim, a 22-year-old lady was indeed raped.
According to a competent Police source, the actor had been transferred to the Criminal Investigations Department (SCID) of the state police command for further interrogation on the matter, adding that the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), transferred the case to the SCID as a result of the pressure being mounted on him by influential people to release the suspect.
Confirming the incident, the Osun Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Folashade Odoro said that the case had been reported to the police the actor was being detained at the SCID, Osogbo.

Goodluck Jonathan's Cousin, Chief Inengite Nitabai was rescued today by a special anti-kidnapping squad of the Nigerian Police.
According to recent reports, the police has managed to set free the 70-year-old cousin of the President.
As it was informed earlier, Chief Nitabai was kidnapped 18 days ago, on February 23rd by 10 gunmen at Otuoke community, Ogbia Local Government, State of Bayelsa.
Police has revealed that no ransom was paid to rescue Chief Nitabai.
The details of the rescue operation and state of the President's cousin are yet to be revealed.

Boko Haram Member Confesses Before Pastor T.B Joshua, You Can't Believe His Revelation.
The congregation at the Synagogue, Church Of All Nations (SCOAN) were stunned today when a member of the dreaded Boko Haram sect confessed before Pastor T.B. Joshua, revealing how their plan to bomb the popular church in Lagos was thwarted.
“My name is Mustapha. I come from Yola, Adamawa State. I am a member of Boko Haram,” he began, sending the congregation into uproar. “Boko Haram is a cult. We have killed many souls,” he confessed.
Mustapha explained further: “When I joined this cult, they wrote something with Arabic Language. After writing it, they washed it and I drunk it. That is the day I had the mind to kill souls.”
While explaining their plan to bomb the church and how it failed, the secret sect member explained said: “We were five in number. We dropped at the junction opposite the church. There was a man who used to sell something opposite the church here. He is selling sweets, soap and cigarettes. I met the man and asked him to help me keep the bag I was carrying. It contained some instruments – bombs, to destroy people.
“Later, we decided to sit down and eat before going on our mission here. Our plan was to take souls, to destroy at this Synagogue Church.”
“We can set the bomb to explode in one minute or ten minutes. We planned to set it for five minutes and immediately leave the place. All the souls will go.”
However, whilst sitting down to eat with his colleagues at a restaurant opposite the popular church in Ikotun-Egbe, Mustapha recounted a strange incident. “They brought food for us and we were eating. At that place, they had television. We were watching the television and discussing. It was Emmanuel TV – I saw you (T.B. Joshua) preaching to people.
“By the time you prayed and laid hands on the screen, it was like you were there with us and you joined our midst. As you laid your hands on the screen, you laid your hands on our face. That was when confusion came between us; everybody scattered.
“Since that day, I wanted to go home but I am not fit. Any time I lie down, I will be seeing you (T.B. Joshua) in my dream. You are disturbing me. I don’t know what I did to you. The thing is bothering me too much.”
Asked to explain further, Mustapha sadi: “In my dream yesterday, you told me that the group of Boko Haram would not exist again. I want to go but I don’t have the spirit to do it again. I don’t sleep in the night; I always see you. You are disturbing me. You keep praying for me and laying hands on me. I want to sleep well. I cannot close my eyes without seeing you (T.B. Joshua). Please, help me.”
Several hours after the sect member gave his initial confession, Pastor Joshua brought the young man forward again, stating that God had warned him of the impending attack several weeks ago, prompting him to go into intense prayers.
“I have been in a serious battle for the past two weeks. Those who looked at my knees yesterday will know that this is what I wore last week,” Joshua stated.
“It was not a surprise to me because I have seen it. My mission is to separate him from the spirit that is controlling him to do that. We are not to fight mere flesh and blood,” the pastor explained.
Mustapha continued: “I cannot sleep or close my eyes. Even now, I am feeling a headache because I have not slept at night. Any time I lie down and I want to sleep, I will see you in my dream, praying for me and disturbing me.”
As he was prayed upon, the Boko Haram member fell violently on the floor. He managed to get back up but fell again at the prayer of Joshua. He then began to vomit some strange substances.
When asked about a tattoo of a scorpion emblazoned on his shoulder, he replied: “This is the tattoo they gave to me in the cult. All of us have this tattoo.”
Mustapha, who explained it was his very first time in a church, confessed that, “We have never failed before. There is an operation we did at an airforce base in Maiduguri recently. Even we went to Adamawa State in Michika two weeks ago. We have never failed.”
Stretching his hand towards Mustapha again, Joshua prayed once again and the young man fell to the floor. As he got up slowly from the floor, tears were in the eyes of Mustapha. “The spirit leading him to kill is gone,” Joshua declared to applause from the onlookers.
Chief Of Army Staff Relocates To North-East To Fight Boko Haram
Fresh reports provide that the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen, Kenneth Minimah, has relocated to the North-East to personally take the war against Boko Haram insurgents under control.
According to reports, this decision followed the series of bloody attacks in the zone.
Minimah is said to be already collaborating with the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Olusola Amosu, whose men provide air support for the Special Forces drawn from the Army, the Nigerian Navy, and others.
During this session, in the course of which the committee came up with the decision that the COAS should move to the the North-East, the army was also instructed to change strategy on possible new ways of fighting insurgency in Yobe, Borno and Adamawa states by mobilising all available military resources for the purpose.
The statement read in part, “The Senate Committee on Defence and Army condemned the atrocity being unleashed by Boko Haram elements on innocent citizens and in particular the massacre of students of the Federal Government College, Buni Yadi in Yobe State.
It would be recalled that in the recent month the Northeastern states of the country have faced numerous uprecedented atrocities committed by suspected Boko Haram sect members, in particular - the deadly attack on Yobe school, claiming lives of 59 children.

Jonathan to swear in 11 new ministers
A statement issued by Dr Reuben Abati, the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, on Tuesday in Abuja, said the swearing-in would take place at the Council Chamber of the Presidential Villa before the weekly Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting.
Those to be sworn-in are Musiliu Obanikoro (Lagos), Mohammed Wakil (Borno), Abduljelili Adesiyan (Osun), Aminu Wali (Kano) and Akon Eyakenyi (Akwa Ibom).
Others are Lawrencia Labaran (Kaduna State), Dr Tamuno Danagogo (Rivers), Asabe Ahmed (Niger), Aliyu Gusau (Zamfara), Boni Haruna (Adamawa) and Dr Khaliru Alhassan (Sokoto State).
The President had on February 21 forwarded names of 12 ministerial nominees to the Senate for clearance, from which 11 were cleared.

Nwankwo Kanu Undergoes 2nd Heart Surgery
Super Eagles legend and former captain, Nwankwo Kanu needs our serious prayers as he had to undertake a second heart surgery at the Cleveland Hospital, Ohio, USA.
The former star player, who wowed Nigerians and the entire footballing world with his silky skills, bringing honour to his country and European clubs, had to undergo the corrective surgery during his yearly routine medical checks at the hospital following the first surgery he had in 1997 at the same hospital.
Kanu who played and won several laurels for clubs like Ajax Amsterdam of Holland, Inter Milan of Italy, Arsenal FC and Portsmouth FC of England, had to take the first surgery shortly after leading Nigeria’s U-23 team to win the Atlanta Olympics Gold medal in football.
The founder of Kanu Hearts Foundation which sponsors kids with heart defects for surgeries abroad, was almost written off but he bounced back and played active football till he retired several years later.
The co-ordinator of the KHF, Pastor Onyebuchi Abia, confirmed that the surgery was a success and that Kanu had since left the intensive care unit of the hospital and is recuperating in the hospital.
“He’ll be back home in a few days’ time,” Abia said in a statement.

Happy Birthday Pastor Enoch Adeboye Clocks 72
The extremely humble man of God clocked 72 years of age yesterday, 2nd of March, 2014, and in his message to congratulate the international preacher, President Goodluck Jonathan said that Pastor Adeboye has continued to pray for Nigeria’s unity and that with people like him praying for the country, Nigeria will continue to remain one indivisible country.
Born in Ifewara, Osun State, Nigeria, Pastor Adeboye, who is fondly called Daddy GO by his teeming followers, is a Professor of Mathematics with a PhD in Applied Mathematics from the University of Lagos. He was a Mathematics lecturer in Mathematics at the Universities of Lagos and Ilorin and after joining the RCCG, he began working to translate the sermons of its then Pastor and founder, Rev. Josiah Olufemi Akindayomi, from Yoruba into English.
In 1981, Pastor Adeboye was appointed General Overseer of the church, taking over from Papa Akindayomi, who had died the previous year.
The church, which was not well known before Pastor Adeboye took charge, now has branches in over a hundred countries, including more than 20,000 in Nigeria, with Pastor Adeboye’s aim of planting a church within five minutes of every person on Earth.
Pastor Adeboye is married to Pastor Foluke Adenike Adeboye and they have four grown children who are all successful in their different fields of endeavor.

FACEBOOK IS BUYING WHATSAPP FOR $16 BILLION
Facebook has entered into an agreement to purchase WhatsApp, easily the biggest messaging client around the world, Facebook will pay $16 billion in cash and stock. A document has been filed with the SEC today confirming the purchase. Facebook says WhatsApp will continue to operate independently after the acquisition, but claims the deal “accelerates Facebook’s ability to bring connectivity and utility to the world.” I find this to be the biggest acquisition from any top 5 tech giant in the last 48 months… Quite shocking too.

Nabbing the award for the extremely competitive Best Actress category is girl of the moment, Lupita Nyong'o who walked away with the gold staue for her role in '12 Years A Slave'.

Harrysong Says He Charges Over 1 Million Naira To Write Songs
Popular Musician, Harry song, who happens to be signed with Kaycee's 5-star music has made an amazing disclosure to us. He says that he charges a whooping sum of one million Naira to write songs.
